Senior CPN UML leader Sahana Pradhan has passed away last night at 11 pm while undergoing treatment at Vayodha Hospital Sanepa Kathmandu.Pradhan-88 was suffering from neural disease for last 3 years and had brain hemorrhage on 23 of Jestha.She had had an open heart surgery before 18 years.
Born in 1927, Pradhan was actively involved in all of the Nepal's democratic movements.Her political journey has started at the young age of 20.She was married to another great communist leader Pushpa Lal Shrestha.She had sat in 15 days long hunger strike during Rana regime demanding women's education in Nepal.She had given leadership to the United Communist Front during People's Movement in 2046 BS.She was later appointed as Minister of commerce and supplies in 2047 in the interim government.She also worked as minister of women, children and social welfare after second people's revolution in 2062-2063.
CPN-UML will be flying it's party flag at half-mast for 3 days across nation to mourn Pradhan's death.UML party has also decided to hold all the party activities for 3 days and it will organize a condolence program on coming october 11.
Pradhan's body has been cremated at Pashupati Aaryaghat today with national respect.The funeral procession had started from UML party headquarter Balkhu and moved through Kalimati, Tripureshwar, Jamal, Ghantaghar, Kamalpokhari, Maitighar, Gyaneshwar, Ratopul, Gaushala and finally to Aryaghat.
Pradhan is survived by a son Umesh and a daughter Usha.
